"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine

Your intellect alone is not enough
To guide you through this life you have on earth;
For many of the world's most brilliant men
Are lost, like drunkards stumbling through the night.
But once the Holy Spirit dwells in you,

How should we choose the people we pray for? We know that thousands,
perhaps millions, of people become sick or injured every day. We cannot
pray for all of them individually. So how do we choose? Why should we
sometimes pray for famous people in the news, and not for the vast
multitude of unknowns who also need our prayers? What should we do?
The reality is, there is an infinite need for prayer, just as there is an
infinite need for other kinds of assistance to people. But our resources
are finite and limited. Whatever time or other resources we give to one
recipient, we cannot give to others, perhaps more worthy or more deserving
of our help.
Here is the way I decide, and I am suggesting this way for you.
First, whenever you have a generous or loving impulse to help someone --
by prayer or otherwise -- follow that impulse unless you have a very,
very, good reason not to follow it. Loving impulses to help come straight
from God, and we should always follow them unless we have a really good
reason not to follow them.
When a particular individual comes to your attention -- either from direct
personal contact or from an indirect contact, such as a news report -- you
can always take a moment to offer a brief prayer for that particlar person
and for those who are close to him. For example, "Lord, please help Joe
Jones who was injured today, and all of his loved ones." And if you feel
the impulse to expand on this prayer, go ahead and do it.
Likewise, when groups of people come to your attention, you can always
offer a brief prayer for them. For example, "Lord, please help those
tornado victims I saw on TV, and all of their loved ones." And if you feel
the impulse to expand on this prayer, go ahead and do it.
We recognize that millions of people are constantly in need, even though
they have not specifically come to our attention. It is always a good idea
to say a general prayer for them, too, perhaps something like this: "Dear
Lord, please help and bless all those who are suffering and in need.
Please bring to them Your aid and Your relief."
Caution: Do not start criticizing God for allowing bad things to happen to
good people. God does things for His own reasons, which none of us are
entitled to understand at this time. For more on this subject, please see

Q: If God already knows everything, why do we need to pray for anything?
Doesn't He already know what we want?
A: Yes, He already knows everything, but He doesn't necessarily pay
attention to everything. He desires us to express ourselves directly to
Him when we want something. As the Bible says, "Be anxious for nothing;
but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known unto God." - Philippians 4:6 (KJCNT) Complete text

Prayer For You
"Go Ahead And Give Yourself To Christ"

How should we choose the people we pray for? We know that thousands,
perhaps millions, of people become sick or injured every day. We cannot
pray for all of them individually. So how do we choose? Why should we
sometimes pray for famous people in the news, and not for the vast
multitude of unknowns who also need our prayers? What should we do?
The reality is, there is an infinite need for prayer, just as there is an
infinite need for other kinds of assistance to people. But our resources
are finite and limited. Whatever time or other resources we give to one
recipient, we cannot give to others, perhaps more worthy or more deserving
of our help.
Here is the way I decide, and I am suggesting this way for you.
First, whenever you have a generous or loving impulse to help someone --
by prayer or otherwise -- follow that impulse unless you have a very,
very, good reason not to follow it. Loving impulses to help come straight
from God, and we should always follow them unless we have a really good
reason not to follow them.
When a particular individual comes to your attention -- either from direct
personal contact or from an indirect contact, such as a news report -- you
can always take a moment to offer a brief prayer for that particlar person
and for those who are close to him. For example, "Lord, please help Joe
Jones who was injured today, and all of his loved ones." And if you feel
the impulse to expand on this prayer, go ahead and do it.
Likewise, when groups of people come to your attention, you can always
offer a brief prayer for them. For example, "Lord, please help those
tornado victims I saw on TV, and all of their loved ones." And if you feel
the impulse to expand on this prayer, go ahead and do it.
We recognize that millions of people are constantly in need, even though
they have not specifically come to our attention. It is always a good idea
to say a general prayer for them, too, perhaps something like this: "Dear
Lord, please help and bless all those who are suffering and in need.
Please bring to them Your aid and Your relief."
Caution: Do not start criticizing God for allowing bad things to happen to
good people. God does things for His own reasons, which none of us are
entitled to understand at this time. For more on this subject, please see

Q: If God already knows everything, why do we need to pray for anything?
Doesn't He already know what we want?
A: Yes, He already knows everything, but He doesn't necessarily pay
attention to everything. He desires us to express ourselves directly to
Him when we want something. As the Bible says, "Be anxious for nothing;
but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your

Prayer For You
"Go Ahead And Give Yourself To Christ"
NOTE: When you read this prayer, try to imagine hearing my voice as I
speak it to you. In this way, the prayer is reactivated, and it
the same as if I were actually praying for you at that moment.
(Just like television prayers are reactivated when you watch
them, although the videotape may have been shot years before.)
Perhaps you are a Christian even now,
You go to church and try to do your best,
You try to put His teachings in your life,
But still you do not feel that He is yours.
You do not feel the closeness that you crave.
If this is you, then say this prayer with me:

O Lord, I want you closer in my life,
I want you more to be a part of me.
I want the best relationship with you,
That anyone on earth could ever have.
I know that, "as we give, we shall receive,"

Let The Holy Spirit Guide You Directly In All Things
When you have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and have met the
conditions set forth in Romans 10:9, you are a Christian and the Holy
Spirit is now dwelling within you.
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and
shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the
dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9 KJV)
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of
God dwelleth in you?" (1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV)
Once the Holy Spirit is dwelling within you, He will guide you into
everything you need to know. In order to help guide you, He will
frequently "bring to your remembrance" the appropriate teachings of
Jesus (if you have learned them), as needed.
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will
send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all
things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
(John 14:26 KJV)
So, Beloved: Do not try to figure things out, rigidly, in a legalistic
manner. Do not say, "Yes, I must always do this," or "No, I must never
do that." That is relying on your own intellect too much, leaning on
your own understanding too much. This is the danger of legalism, the
fault of the Pharisees, who knew a thousand different rules but could
not even recognize the Saviour when He was there in front of them.
Your intellect is a poor substitute for direct guidance by the Holy
Spirit. "Lean not unto your own understanding . . .
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto
thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV)
Instead of following your own intellect, follow the direct guidance of
the Holy Spirit, as Peter did when called upon to explain some of his
actions to the authoritities.

Let The Holy Spirit Guide You Directly In All Things
When you have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and have met the
conditions set forth in Romans 10:9, you are a Christian and the Holy
Spirit is now dwelling within you.
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and
shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the
dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9 KJV)
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of
God dwelleth in you?" (1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV)
Once the Holy Spirit is dwelling within you, He will guide you into
everything you need to know. In order to help guide you, He will
frequently "bring to your remembrance" the appropriate teachings of
Jesus (if you have learned them), as needed.
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will
send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all
things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
(John 14:26 KJV)
So, Beloved: Do not try to figure things out, rigidly, in a legalistic
manner. Do not say, "Yes, I must always do this," or "No, I must never
do that." That is relying on your own intellect too much, leaning on
your own understanding too much. This is the danger of legalism, the
fault of the Pharisees, who knew a thousand different rules but could
not even recognize the Saviour when He was there in front of them.
Your intellect is a poor substitute for direct guidance by the Holy
Spirit. "Lean not unto your own understanding . . .
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto
thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV)
Instead of following your own intellect, follow the direct guidance of
the Holy Spirit, as Peter did when called upon to explain some of his
actions to the authoritities.

if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done

FEATURED SEGMENT
RECOGNIZING HUMAN NEEDS AND EMOTIONS IN EMPATHY TRAINING
In Empathy Training, it is essential to recognize the human needs and
emotions which are constantly influencing behavior. In any attempt to have
empathy for other people, we should begin by trying to understand the
needs and emotions which may be affecting them.
We have compiled two lists, shown below, which will provide a starting
point for considering the needs and emotions of others: "Maslow's
Hierarchy Of Needs" and "A Big List Of Human Feelings And Emotions."
Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs
In 1943 Abraham Maslow's paper, "A Theory of Human Motivation," was
published in Psychological Review, 50, 370-396. This paper first described
his method of understanding the various kinds of human needs, their
relative importance, and their relationship to human motivation. This
description soon became very influential among social scientists, and was
known as "Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs." You can read the original version

Over time, Maslow and others tinkered with the details of the Hierarchy Of
Needs, but for our purposes in Empathy Training, the original five-needs
version will suffice. These are the needs that are most commonly discussed
and used.
The five needs, arranged in descending order of priority, with
Physiological needs ranked first.
1. Physiological needs (Air, water, food, sleep, health) - are to do with
the maintenance of the human body. If cannot get air to breathe, then
little else matters until we do.
2. Safety needs (Shelter, removal from danger) - are about putting a roof
over our heads and keeping us from harm. If we are rich, strong and
powerful, or have good friends, we can make ourselves safe.
3. Belonging needs (Love, affection, being a part of groups) - introduce
our tribal nature. If we are helpful and kind to others they will want to
help us when needed.
4. Esteem needs (Self-esteem and esteem from others) - are for a higher
position within a group. If people respect us, we have greater influence
on them.
5. Self-actualization needs (Achieving individual potential) - are to
'become what we are capable of becoming', which would be our greatest
achievement.

FEATURED SEGMENT
RECOGNIZING HUMAN NEEDS AND EMOTIONS IN EMPATHY TRAINING
In Empathy Training, it is essential to recognize the human needs and
emotions which are constantly influencing behavior. In any attempt to have
empathy for other people, we should begin by trying to understand the
needs and emotions which may be affecting them.
We have compiled two lists, shown below, which will provide a starting
point for considering the needs and emotions of others: "Maslow's
Hierarchy Of Needs" and "A Big List Of Human Feelings And Emotions."
Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs
In 1943 Abraham Maslow's paper, "A Theory of Human Motivation," was
published in Psychological Review, 50, 370-396. This paper first described
his method of understanding the various kinds of human needs, their
relative importance, and their relationship to human motivation. This
description soon became very influential among social scientists, and was
known as "Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs." You can read the original version

Over time, Maslow and others tinkered with the details of the Hierarchy Of
Needs, but for our purposes in Empathy Training, the original five-needs
version will suffice. These are the needs that are most commonly discussed
and used.
The five needs, arranged in descending order of priority, with
Physiological needs ranked first.
1. Physiological needs (Air, water, food, sleep, health) - are to do with
the maintenance of the human body. If cannot get air to breathe, then
little else matters until we do.
2. Safety needs (Shelter, removal from danger) - are about putting a roof
over our heads and keeping us from harm. If we are rich, strong and
powerful, or have good friends, we can make ourselves safe.
3. Belonging needs (Love, affection, being a part of groups) - introduce
our tribal nature. If we are helpful and kind to others they will want to
help us when needed.
4. Esteem needs (Self-esteem and esteem from others) - are for a higher
position within a group. If people respect us, we have greater influence
on them.
5. Self-actualization needs (Achieving individual potential) - are to
'become what we are capable of becoming', which would be our greatest
achievement.

"See, dearest mother, the letter says Pete will

Lord Jesus, now I raise my prayer to You,

Your wondrous holy gift of Empathy.

To see and know and feel the inner thoughts
Of those whom You will send upon their way.

Lo, where the trees, deeper green,

Prayer 4 You: To Receive The Gift Of Empathy.
Empathy is "the ability to imagine oneself in another.s place and
understand the other.s feelings, desires, ideas, and actions."
Lord Jesus, now I raise my prayer to You,
That readers of these words may soon receive,
Your wondrous holy gift of Empathy.
And with this gift, I pray they will begin
To see and know and feel the inner thoughts
Of those whom You will send upon their way.
And then I pray that those who have this gift
Will use it well to help those whom You send.
In Jesus' holy name I pray, Amen.
