The final speech delivered by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. was given in
Memphis, Tennessee
on April 3, 1968, the night before he was assassinated. He was in Memphis
at this time, working
to help the city's sanitation workers in their bitter labor dispute with
the city. This was a
highly controversial effort, resisted by many, and Dr. King was well
aware of the threats against
his life which had been circulating. As I listen to this speech, it is
clear to me that Dr. King
somehow knew that he would soon be killed. This speech is his farewell
message to us all.
